Do you remember DuckDuckGo? Last May, we wrote a blog post giving you an overview on what it is and what its features include. To recap briefly, DuckDuckGo is a relatively new search engine that was created with its users’ privacy in mind. Its slogan? “The search engine that doesn’t track you.” Previous searches are not saved in a database, and neither are users’ IP addresses and user information. This means that search results and advertisements featured on DuckDuckGo’s SERPs are not personalized based on websites you’ve visited in the past or on queries you’ve previously entered into the search bar.

So, why are we bringing you another DuckDuckGo article this week?

Because the search engine celebrated a huge milestone recently. On June 22, 2015, DuckDuckGo surpassed 10 million daily searches. Just one year ago, when we wrote our first article on the search engine, they reached about five and a half million daily searches, and their traffic has been increasing steeply ever since then.

Take a look and be amazed at the graph of the traffic that they have provided.

All right, so DuckDuckGo barely competes with Google as it is now. When it comes to search engine traffic, Google dominates, receiving one billion searches on a daily basis and crushing competition from Bing and Yahoo. But the internet cannot deny that DuckDuckGo is beginning to increase in popularity.

Furthermore, if DuckDuckGo’s daily search traffic can double over the course of about one year, just imagine where it will be next year. Perhaps its search traffic will double again? Or maybe it will triple? Only time will tell.

However, we can say for certain that more and more people are finding DuckDuckGo’s commitment to their privacy to be very appealing. It might take some time for DuckDuckGo to reach Google’s level of popularity, but with the rate at which the younger search engine’s traffic and popularity have been increasing, we wouldn’t be surprised if it wound up competing with Google at some point in the future.
